Camping art

When I go camping, I like to bring a notebook and do some watercolour sketches when I have some free time. They are quick and easy to pull out, make a little piece, get a snapshot of something I’m seeing. I don’t take my phone or camera typically. I like being able to spend time with the beauty of nature, to meditate on it more than just having the image.

Towers at sunset

My smaller paintings that aren’t looking at the nature near my house are of local towers lit interestingly at sunset. Where I work, I am able to see the city laid out below me, catching the light of the setting sun, at all of times of the year. It’s enchanting. White towers turn whiter, or pink, or yellow. The sky dramatically contrasted against their hard angles with its soft clouds and bright blues.

Sudoku collages

I’ve been making these for the last year. They started very messy and wrinkly.

Each collage (except Missed Memo) is a nine-by-nine grid of squares. The squares are colour coded and placed according to sudokus that I have solved. I use three different sudokus per piece. The first couple had fewer rules than some I’ve made since.

You will definitely be seeing more of these from me.

Little paintings

These are some small format paintings that I did late last year. I’ve been exploring mixing collage into paint and the layering of shapes. The subject matter is mostly scenes from my commute, around town, and in the parks. I have been having fun playing with different levels of abstraction and control.

Welcome to my website!

I’m Jillian a recent graduate of the University of Guelph and Sheridan College for art and animation respectively. Having finally finished school I’m now busy looking for a job as a storyboard or concept artist.
